The simplest and most correct interpretation of this story is this:-
Even arch enemies, by giving up their enmity and by collaborating, can take an action which is beneficial to both. This story is essentially about the intelligence of Eli and the patience of Poonai.
If Eli could get inside the net he could also have got out of the net at day break without cutting it but he ensured to keep his side of bargain.
This story only gives a lesson that blind trust is not called for but under dire circumstances collaboration is possible even with an arch enemy if done intelligently.
Eli was both intelligent and moral because he kept his side of the bargain. He is the hero of this story.

For many years now, this strip of Indian rain-forest has not been given much international recognition and the UNESCO status might just change this. There is definitely the need for more research in the area to study and understand the challenges faced by both humans and wildlife in the area. Apart from this, there needs to be a lot more awareness and education given to the people living in the area and in the areas close by that they are part of India’s greatest tropical forests.
